Thats very impressive BB , I've worked in the homes of local heros mostly Wigan Rugby players of the 1990's, Twigamilar, Frano. Stevie Hampson and others, I also was instumental in the building of the Boston stand at Central Park and the building of the new stadium at Robin Park, I've also worked in the home of Allen Berserk, the radio presenter, And I'm proud to say I've done work for Tonker and Mac too, Also other WW members, Too many to mention, I've worked in the Liverpool Christian Cathedral ( the wigwam) and thats the house of God But he was't home the weeks I was there, Its not unusual for owners to go away while building work is being done..

I can say the most famous person I ever met and spoke to was Barry Sheene.
However, I have met, spoke to, had a drink with and generally am on friendly terms with a bloke who, although not as famous as Billinge Biker's list, could buy and sell the lot of 'em. Probaby all put together! Does that count?

As regards me job, or former job, a customer was a customer, and I generally kept me trap shut about folk who I have transported around, I have spoken of some, but NEVER about where I picked them up or where I dropped them off, because whether it was a drug addicted scumbag, or whether it was someone who considered themselves to be important, both of their shit stinks, they are only human, and when they are dead, they will be just as dead as everyone else

Yes, yoo are right Tom, one day Dave Whelan walked out of the Civic Buildings on New Market Street, the old gas showrooms, when it was council offices, as though he had been to a meeting, he was on his own, shirt sleeves, he wasn't posh, and definitely not snobbish, I will give him that, but he walked across the road and jumped in the taxi, front seat, JJB he says, so I presumed that he meant the stadium, and at the other end, I found out that has well as not being posh or snobbish, he wasn't generous either, he gave me a tenner and waited for his change, and all I got was a "thanks lad" from him

Yes Tommy David Whelan has ' soaked' many a tradesman, he holds back his payments as long as he can and then,, offers them less than the full valuation knowing they are , strapped for cash and they take it, He's a B^*£dt to work for and has no thoughts at all for the working man yet, if you owe him, he'll send the dogs in, 'Orrible man,

Envy?
I don’t get it.
Why should someone be envious of another for meeting a celebrity or other high profile figure?
BB has said on numerous occasions he detests the royals and now here he is boasting of meeting them.
Replied: 24th Oct 2023 at 09:10
Why envy? They are just people.
Replied: 24th Oct 2023 at 09:12
Envy...meaning they've no one of importance to have met & so they have to snipe and ruin a nice thread as usual

During the Lindsay era at Central Park I met not not only many of the top Wigan Players, but members of Australian and New Zealand touring teams as well as Australian World Cup Challenge sides in the players bar at Central Park
Now, at the DW Stadium, its gone like Football where you have to pay for hospatality or be a sponser to get to meet the players.

"Remember Jimmy Whelan Dave's dad a great comedian and singer round the club's"
My dad sang on the club circuit in the 1960s and he and Jimmy Whelan were good friends, I spoke to him on a few occasions back then, when he would ring up to discuss a booking with me dad

Rio he could tell a tale too , He once told the story of the Wiganer going to Spain and he forgot to take the visto to make gravy, It was the funniest version I ever heard. A Wigan accent coming from a South African accented bloke,

I was once in a taxi in Wigan driven by Jennifer Moss (Lucille Hewitt from Corrie in the 60s). She was quite chatty, but I didn't let on that I knew who she was.
When we lived in Berlin, my husband and I went to a BFBS Concert in the barracks at the Olympic Stadium and, afterwards, we attended a dinner in the Sergeants' Mess, which were elaborate affairs, and I was seated next to Anita Harris. She was a lovely lady and we nattered on about all sorts. Nothing snobby about her at all.

Tommy:
Thank you so much for that link.
We were in Berlin from 1979 to 1981, so over 40 years ago. She doesn't look as if she's aged a day since then, and she's now 81.
A truly terrific entertainer, and a very modest one.
